PyroTech by Michelman (PTM)™ coatings and saturants can add flame retardancy to paper, paperboard and corrugated sheets—economically and efficiently. Generally applied offline, PTM™ flame retardant coatings and saturants can provide the right solution to meet the test specifications required by your customer.

For Paper Materials
When paper products require a flame retardant, PTM’s saturant chemistry can provide protection from heat and flame. Recommended products for this application (PyroBreak™ EX-13 and PyroBreak™ EX-18) are formulated for deep penetration of the substrate. These products, on paper substrates, have been tested to the following standards: ASTM E-162, ASTM E-662, NFPA 701 and TAPPI 461.

For Corrugated Materials
Linerboard and corrugated sheets, fabricated into boxes, building materials, displays and structural components, can be used in a variety of new applications when the corrugated has been treated with PTM’s PyroCide™ II & Ceramic™ EX-16 retardants. These coatings can be tinted to pastel shades or they can be used as a primer and top coated with other Michelman coatings and still maintain flame retardancy. Corrugated materials treated with PTM™ flame-resistant coatings have been tested to these standards: ASTM E-162/662, FMR heat release, NFPA 30, ASTM E-84, NFPA 703 and UL 723.
